Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a type of Cognitive Behavioral therapy. This modality helps the child or youth discover their core values and beliefs that may be inaccurate which in turn causes them suffering or hardship. The clinician works to process these false beliefs (for example “I am worthless”) with the client and replace them with rational thoughts. Our thoughts can often get clouded and confused. Often we tell ourselves lies that can be self-defeating. Working with a counselor helps the child realize how their thoughts can negatively impact their lives. By working together clarity is enhanced which produces a stronger child who feels empowered and clear headed.
