Middle and high school years can be challenging for children and their parents or caregivers. Often adolescence is accompanied by feelings of insecurity and confusion. This may lead to defiance and difficulties within the family unit. Please know you are not alone. There is nothing wrong with your family. Many families struggle during the child’s adolescence, and there is nothing wrong with asking for help. Whether your child’s challenges deal with adolescent defiance or more serious behavior such as cutting or suicide attempts we at CFCCC are here to help.
As adolescents grow it is normal for them to consider more about what others think than their family. Individuation begins and autonomy increases during this rapid period of growth. This development can cause dramatic changes within the family unit that are not always positive. Our treatment focuses on educating both the parents/caregivers and the teen in positive strategies for resolving conflict and negotiating problem areas. We teach more effective styles of communicating with each other within the family unit. The clinician assists with helping the child or caregiver change beliefs that may be unreasonable or false. As parents we are sometimes unaware of how our behavior and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our children. In working together we can discover the key to making the necessary changes so that you and your family can have the peace and wellbeing each of you deserves.
